RR Sport v Velar
Discussion
Looking to replace my wife's A35 with a 4x4 in the next few months. Seeing as it looks as though the days of decent lease deals are lacking presently, I am looking at buying something. We quite like the new Defender (I have the old one!) but I don't really want to spend £55-60k at the moment what with house renovations costing a fortune. Budget probably 35-40k so looking at something c2016/17 for the RR Sport, and maybe slightly newer on a Velar if we don't go for the 300.
We've had a Disco and Disco Sport before, have two kids, like to throw stuff in the back and occasionally use off road (muddy fields mostly). I have driven the Velar d300 for a few days which was nice, never driven a Sport but my father-in-law has one. Apart from the size difference, how do they compare? I appreciate both aren't as rugged as the Defender, but do they hold up to kids/rubbish in the back/tip runs etc? Is the Velar really compromised with the sloping tailgate etc? Are the crank issues really a concern?
Must admit, I rather miss air suspension so that counts out most non-300 Velars. Guessing not many D180/240s were specced with air?!
Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially if someone has owned both!

Two of my friends both got 2015 RRS autobiography models a couple of years ago.
One has the newer infotainment system and the other hasn’t.
Both 3.0 diesels. Actually very nice cars but both say the boots are a bit lacking for the size of the cars.
Both came from a Disco 3 and Disco 4 so everything is going to have a small boot compared to them...
Both are proving quite reliable but they both have the same warranty package just in case.
I would go for the Sport because it is going to be bigger and will have the air suspension that you want.
