Morning all.

I have got a Discovery 4 which I love but I am getting fed up with the local low life constantly stealing bits from it.

So far they have stolen the rear lights twice, detachable tow bar, spare wheel and now the glass from the wing mirror.

It is getting so frustrating that I am thinking of getting rid of the car. However, I cannot think of anything else that I want - except another LR product.

Is this theft of parts common across all LRs? Or mainly restricted to Discovery’s and Defenders? I would consider swapping for a FFRR or maybe a new Defender (less keen on RRS as they seem a bit too bling for me). A D5 would also be an option but I prefer the look of my D4!

There are products on the market that will cheaply and easily stop the theft of all those parts, apart from the wing mirror glass.

Thanks and I appreciate that - I have replaced the screws for the lights with tamper proof ones, have got a security plate for the spare wheel etc.

I am just fed up that they then just move onto stealing another bit of the car so it is a constant financial drain and annoyance.

The other two cars in the household have never been touched - it is always the LR which made me wonder if it was a problem specific to this particular model

D4 parts are popular for doing a facelift on D3 and early D4s.

Back lights can be retrofitted easily, they go on a D3 with an added resistor to make the indicator flash at correct speed.
Sell for £200+ a set.
Wing mirrors also command good money.
Depending on wheel, they also make good money.

Bar getting a security plate for the wheel, and covers for the front and back lights. Don’t think there is much you can do sadly.

These days, scrotes are even stripping Corsas down in the middle of the street so if your plan is to simply buy a car they won't touch, you'll be looking at something old and worthless. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can really do aside from moving to a property where the car can be better secured (and I know that's not practical in 99.99% of cases). frown

Ultimately we need more police on the streets and harsher punishments in the courts but that'll only happen when things get so bad that even politicians are affected.
