I have a 2018 FFRR with 55k miles on it. Going forward mileage will be low. They have quoted £107 per month to extend the warranty! Of course I also need to get it serviced with them. I hate the costs of servicing at LR and would prefer to use my local specialist. Also at £1284 a year to extend warranty I think I would prefer to self insure/ take the gamble. What do you guys think?

You don't have to get it serviced with LR, but stipulate has to be V AT registered garage IIR.

I've had the LR extended warrant for 5 years on my 2012 Disco. But this year decided to bank the money and take a chance. I only do 5k miles a year without a pandemic, so seemed sensible. Its insurance at the end of the day, take a chance...

In my experience of LR warranty, used it a few times and they paid for the work each time. Comparing what I would have had pay in repairs against the warranty costs over 5 years, the warranty probably cost me slightly more, but only just. But that's based on stealer repair charges, i would take it a reputable indie now.

For the past 15 + years in succession I have had 3 V8 Jaguars (2 S Types and a XF) and a LR Discovery Sport, all from JLR main dealers. All came with a JLR warranty and in every case I extended the warranty.

As far as the Jaguars are concerned, the warranties were well worth while. For example for one of the S Types I had the auto gearbox fully replaced three times under the warranty.

I have had the Discovery Sport for over four years and I have extended the JLR warranty on two occasions now, and have not made a claim. The warranty cost £1025 in January, this including European breakdown, MoT, etc.

I do like peace of mind motoring.

Make of this what you will.

I suppose I also need to think about when I sell.

I may sell it at the end of the year and of course it helps with full LRSH and a warranty.

The first year of my LR extended warranty on my L405 was a ‘waste of money’. ie nothing went wrong.

The second year, I got about £7k of work done on it.

So, personally, I wouldn’t be without an extended warranty on a newish LR.

If it’s a diesel V6 ask them to confirm in writing if you’re covered if the crank snaps and you need a new engine.

Doesn’t need main dealer servicing, just VAT registered garage.

And as long as OEM parts are used it shouldn't affect the warranty, if you have one of course.

How come? I definitely will, because I have had far too many little niggles so far and I plan to keep it until 2023 - I.e. After the first couple model years of the new FFRR so it's inevitable problems are fixed!

1200 quid sounds about right.

I extended a FFRR yesterday. There were four choices, I went for the unlimited claim, no Assist. They also do a "select" product which has a £3k per claim cap.

The last time I extended a FFRR it burned a valve a few weeks later. The cost was, I think, £8k.

With regard to the servicing. They are currently doing a "3+" tariff for cars above 3 years old, but they don't necessarily volunteer that info. My preferred LR dealership forgot to mention it, so I reminded them and it saved about 35%. I may have saved a couple of hundred quid at an indy, but I would rather have LR do it.
