New Evoque Buying Options
Discussion
Looking to by a new Evoque for the wife, but few questions for myself as will drive myself when travelling together.
Note 99% of usage will be 2x Adults and luggage, no towing, so here's a couple of questions not clear from online reviews and can't get test drive at this time.
What's the performance of the P250 like, not thinking boy racer from the lights, more when wanting a quick clean overtake?
Any recommendation on 18" or 20" wheels other than looks, heard 20" less comfortable ride?
Value of clear sight interior mirror option?
Final thoughts on auto gear box, never owned an auto but driven many in the US with mixed experience? Paddle Gear shifting any good?
Thanks in advance.

Hi. I’ve had a couple of Evoques - both diesels - and currently have a P300e PHEV on order for May delivery.
I have had a drive in a P250 and found it a pretty good experience. I don’t think you’d find it short on overtaking ability and it’s pretty smooth and quiet (certainly compared with a D180).
I’d pretty much decided to order one until the PHEV was announced. It’s pretty thirsty though.
I’ve had 18in wheels on both of mine- mostly because of the lower cost of tyres. Having said that my current (66 plate) car is still on its originals. But with the state of the roads around where I live I feel more comfortable with higher aspect ratio tyres.
I ave opted out of the clearview mirror on my next one. It’s a great toy but in all honesty I’ve never felt the need. Rear view from the Evoque isn’t great but a combination of mirrors and parking cameras is more than adequate imho.
Paddle gear change is fine - although I have little to compare it with.

Thanks for update Critical Mass, this is just what I was looking for from current Evoque owner.
I can understand why you have gone for P300e, good choice and pondered this one my self for a while. However as I'm expecting mileage to be low on this car, decided to wait a while then switch to full EV when solid state batteries come of age.
Have also come to same conclusion on clear view mirror as you describe - thanks for that.
Cheers,
Pete

I used the clear view mirror briefly at the Land Rover Experience Day you get when you buy your car as they had it on one of their cars I drove. Obviously it's not normal road driving as it was at walking pace around a quarry but I found it horrid to use and there was something about it that just didn't feel right. My wife felt the same and the instructor said a lot of people feel the same.
I think a lot of it is to do with it being a screen and not a mirror so the image doesn't change at all when you tilt your head or look at it from a different angle, so maybe it's just something you get used to. I didn't bother with my Disco Sport.
Can't help with the other questions as I went down a wheel size to get a better ride and the hybrids weren't available wen I got mine!
edit - gearbox is fine, not as nice to drive as the Audi DSG boxes but I've had no issues with it. But I didn't get my car a dynamic driving experience! I don't think I've ever used the paddle shifters because it's a 9 speed box and I'd always be changing...
