Freelander 2 for 3000 miles a year, 1000 on farm tracks
Discussion
Later Freelander 2 with the Ford 2.2 engine and gearbox are one of the most reliable cars LR have ever built.
I have a friend who has done 210k miles in his ... frequent servicing / tyres and had no breakdowns or issues and its still on same clutch .... had its first set of front discs at 190k miles, and it has towed a light trailer most weekends as well.
If your using around the farm ... give the underneath a good coating of wax oil or oil based product to protect it.

Quite happy with my freeby 2.
Auto is a good shout, on the fb page there is no end of people needing to change the clutches on them.
Auto, get the box serviced and get the haldex serviced as most don’t get done.
Test everything works electrics wise and check the back arches as early ones can suffer rust there.

Late to thread but hope it helps the OP.
I bought a 10 plate FL2 direct from JLR when it was 2 year old and on about 25k.
It's now 11 year old and on 127k miles.
It goes off metalled roads virtually every day, at least 6 days a week, however not silly off roading beloved of blokes with beards, boiler suits and incredibly muddy wellies. Mainly farm and forest tracks, sometimes moorland tracks, very occasionally disused quarry roads, but nothing silly, but definitely not uber smooth. Looking at it sat on the drive can see from the tidemarks on the wheels that drove it on a track covered with several inches of mud yesterday. Why did I bother washing it on Monday?
Not done many miles last year, no long journeys, 4000k in total, 2000 at a guess off road, if you can call what I do "off road." But you can calculate my usual annual mileage 100k over 9 years.
Every 2 years take it to a wheel alignment place where they also fit tyres, they have a Carlos Fandango Hunter 4 wheel alignment setup, frequently when I turn up they've got someone's track or rally car in to set up. Every time, apart from the first time I took it, it's still perfectly aligned even after several thousand miles of potholes and ruts.
For your use I'd get the latest pre dpf model I could get / afford. Early examples with dpf tend to dilute the oil on short mileages and journeys.
They do have known issues, forum freel2.com is where it's at. TBH I'm not sure what to replace with, many on that forum in exactly same boat. Find yourself a good recommended indy specialist, avoid JLR dealers obviously.
