Replacing L322 4.2 SC with 5.0 SC L322 or L405 5.0 SC??
Discussion
We have a 2005/6 4.2 Supercharged L322 Range rover with about 70k miles on it.
It gets occasional use, moving big loads, shooting, farm stuff etc.
We have some off road tyres on it that have been great.
Now tempted to replace it with a low ish mile 5.0 Supercharged L322 for about 20k.
Thing is, the L405 later shape 5.0 Supercharged can be had for 33-36K.
I prefer the older shape, should I be scared of the L405 and it's complexity?
We want to use it as an off road car and for occasional trips, not regular road trips to speak of, so maybe the L322 is better? But 20-25k for a late one seems a lot!?
Any thoughts??

My parents have a 4.2 L322 and a 5.0 L405
If you’re only using it occasionally and you’ve got a ‘good one’ personally I’d keep it
We constantly talk about getting rid of it or swapping it for a 5.0 but it’s a lovely car and it just doesn’t seem worth it. The better fuel economy and more up to date ICE would be nice though
The L405 is a lovely car as well but in a lot of respects I actually prefer the L322

Thank you for the replies.
One option is to spend a few k on tidying up the one we have at the moment, but keen to replace really.
It does seem like the 2012 5.0 Supercharged might be a bit of a unicorn. I found one but in white which let's be honest just looks too chav.
Nearly all 2012 run out L322's seem to be TDV8 in Westminster Trim.
I do think the L322 has a real class/gravitas. Seems like 18-20k for a clean one.
But I'm sure the 405 is amazing too, I haven't driven one, maybe I should. 35k for a 2013 Supercharged autobiography perhaps even with some warranty.
With both of them ideally I want one with less than 70k miles, no more than 80k in any case, I guess the maintenance records will be all important!

You are considering 5.0 SC 405 as a mainly off road car? Why?
I really don't see the point frankly. Never been in one but I assume that 99% of what you get is wasted when plugging along a rutted muddy track.
Sounds like your current car is more than ample for the job.
If I had a 5.0 SC 405 Autobiography I'd not be messing about in a field with it. I have an old Land Cruiser for that.
Or are we talking about doing the rounds on your 10,000 acre country estate looking for deer/ trespassers to shoot? I which case go for it.

To use a Range Rover as a Range Rover. Drive around the farm, to go shooting and then off road after driving an hour or so to get there with all the gear on board etc
A used land cruiser would probably almost be dearer looking at some of the prices, even the old ones.
We do have a series three land rover too, it’s fun but no one wants to drive that more than a few miles anywhere.

Absolutely! Our 2017 L405 Range Rover (albeit the 4.4 SDV8) spends a lot of time off road - and no not in a broken down manner. It’s such a wonderful thing to be in such a comfortable car that still keeps going no matter what gets thrown at it. It gets all over the place on a shoot and then wafts me home perfectly. Nothing else comes close. To use a Range Rover as a Range Rover. Drive around the farm, to go shooting and then off road after driving an hour or so to get there with all the gear on board etc
