I'm considering going back to a Rangie after a few years away. I previously had a 2015 RRS and was very frustrated with the response of the infotainment system.

I'd like to get into a MY16 onwards RR (full fat) but unsure if I'd actually like using the touch screen as I like the three dials including the ease of tactility when driving. Full touchscreen systems have always annoyed me and I much prefer the idrive type systems.

Apart from the dual screen are there any particular improvements from MY18 onwards?

I've been advised MY16 onwards have a much more responsive system, Applecar play etc I don't really need but I do remember the MY15 rear view camera about as useful as a chocolate teapot in anything but a bright summer's day so having more functional tech would certainly be appreciated.

The infotainment is much better on the facelift models, and I find I quite like the dual screen setup (I didn't think I would). My Dad's FFRR is a 2015 with the older system with the poor quality screen and very slow interface, my 2020 RRS is leagues ahead and much easier to use with a much higher quality display (similar to an ipad).

The heater temperatures and heated seats are still physical dials, as is the volume control so it's not too annoying having the second screen, you can choose what to display on it so it can be useful, I use it to control my music whilst using the main screen for nav. The digital dash gauges are much better too with more options for what to display, including full sat nav map which can be handy.

I run a 2019 l405 s/c.

The touchscreens are generally ok, but system is quite slow to boot up and the nav interface isn’t great when it comes to entering destinations. When destination is set it’s ok.

The dials on that panel for seat heating etc are however, in my view, one of the things that lets the car down. As a key touchpoint they feel cheap and the panel flexes (only slightly but noticeably and creakily) when you push them to change function.

Other than that, it’s a great car and I’d buy the same again.

Thanks for the feedback.

Are the buttons on the lower screen area haptic like in the Cayenne or just a touchscreen?

It's likely I'll save the cash and go for a MY17 but will try to get a test drive of a MY18+ to see if the drive feels any different.

The other half is very much championing a Sport, is it true that the MY18+ Sport has a more luxurious interior to bridge the gap to the Vogue?

Unless my brain is filtering out any feedback, they’re just straight touchscreens (presumably because button placement changes depending on what the screen is being used for).

On RRS vs FFRR, the only sensible advice is to look at both. Personally I’d only want the FFRR but have friends who are a bit more urban who will never be talked out of RRS.

One of my friends recently bought one of the last pre-facelifts and doesn’t feel short changed. In some ways it’s nicer without screens everywhere.

So I had a test drive today at a local dealer and they didn't have a 5.0 SC but did have the P400E. I'm very surprised at how well it goes and how pootling around it, suits the car quite well. Also the lag I hated from my previous diesel from roundabouts etc is non existent.

I'm seriously considering one especially as I have an 8 mile commute to work so majority of the time it could be full EV and hoping for some benefit in buying through my company too.
