Should my 3.6 HSE Range Rover Sport have a “headlights on” warning buzzer? Drained the battery a couple of weeks ago by leaving them on and nearly done it again the other day, was wondering if previous owner maybe disconnected a fuse or something to stop the buzzer?? Cheers.

There should be a "boing", much the same as leaving the keys in the ignition.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for that, any ideas as to why it might be disarmed? Could it be in the settings that can be adjusted like the dipping mirror when reversing? Any ideas appreciated. I’ll check a few things in the morning.

I don't recall it being a user definable setting.

You're probably going to have to go digging for an answer to this one.

Likely a previous owner has had the bongs turned off.

I had all mine turned off on my D3.
Leave the lights in auto and no more worries.

You can program mirrors to dip, and the third button on your key for light delay. Mine certainly bongs if you leave the lights on. But mine are permanently on 'Auto'.

"Follow Me Home" lights. You can program the 3rd button to perform one of a number of tasks, including things like tailgate release or IIRC a panic alarm. All detailed in the manual... wink

The FMH lights will also activate if you leave the main light switch turned to the "On" position and shut down the engine before turning the light switch to "Off".
This may be spec dependent though, anyone know?

There should still be a warning bong though.

No, they all do that too.

Also, door open, key in ignition should elicit a repeating bong.

...assuming you haven't disabled it in the settings on the dash. wink

So how would I go about having the bongs turned back on?

The facetious answer is read the manual.

But I believe it's somewhere in the settings menu on the dash. A simple on/off option.

Not the warning 'boing', that isn't in the menu. You're probably going to have to do that directly via the ECU.

However...

Question: Does your indicator 'click' still work and your parking sensor warning?

I've just been doing a bit of reading on this and it would appear there's a little speaker in the instrument cluster which produces the various warning sounds. This speaker can fail, which will take out all warnings.

Camel, without wishing to derail the thread, I noticed my reverse and front proximity sensors have stopped working.

I seem to remember this happening a few years back, but can't remember the remedy. Are they all on one fuse? Or are they like Christmas tree lights, one goes down, they all go out?

I've also seen a trick on YouTube for checking. Basically put the car in reverse, parking brake on, engine running and with your mobile film the rear sensors which should emit a loud clicking on your phone. Myth or good trick?

The devil, as always, is in the detail... A sensor fault does have the ability to take out the entire system but usually preceded by a continuous tone and a flashing light on the PDC switch. If your system is completely non-responsive, it's probably something more fundamental.

Nope, not a myth but IIRC you can knock it into 'N' rather than keeping in 'R'.

As you go from sensor to sensor, the active sensors will be emitting a click and a faulty one will be silent. However, don't discount the wiring loom as the rear sensors can fail due to the wiring chafing in the rear bumper.

Thanks!

Definitely all off. Switch on the dash unresponsive. I'll have a look for the fuse and have a rummage under the rear bumper to see if there's anything obvious if it isn't the fuse.

IIRC - It's only the wiring to the sensors under the bumper. The connectors are behind the NSR light cluster and some (possibly all) of the control units are behind the LHS trim panels in the boot.

Google is your friend. biggrin

The parking sensor warning works but the indicator doesn’t click when used.
The bong can’t be toggled off in the menu settings as you say and I’ve had a skim through the manual but couldn’t see anything. Surely no one’s going to go to the hassle of turning the bong off through the ecu, seems a bit extreme. It’s no big deal, I can live with it. Appreciate all the answers, thanks.

Ah ha... Sounds like it's the little speaker in the instrument cluster which is FUBAR.

From what I read earlier, the fix is a right 'faff' as it'll require pulling the instrument cluster out to replace it or the speaker. Putting up with it is probably the path of least resistance.

ETA: There's some useful info here, including some details on how to do a DIY fix if you're that way inclined. And although it's the D3 site, the RRS & D3 are mostly the same.
