I loved my old RRS 2.7TDV6 - but it's gearbox started going after 130,000 hard miles. So now I'm considering getting a replacement which will not have to work so hard. I could probably find a reasonable L494 in budget but it would probably be 5 or 6 years old, or I could go for a much newer Disco Sport with at least 12 months LR warranty (if LR Approved Used). Having driven a recent FF Disco (see what I did there ?), I found its handling far inferior to the old RRS, so have discounted that possibility.
Or [heresy alert] what about a Jaguar F-Pace - how do they compare with a Disco Sport ?[/heresy alert]

I previously owned a Discovery Sport (for six months before exchanging it for Range Rover Sport) and I am currently running a Jaguar F-Pace along with a 2014 L405.
The reason for unloading the Discovery Sport was that the engine was basically cr*p with exceptionally poor lag and despite all the dealership garbage about it being my driving style, I decided enough was enough, bit the bullet and exchanged it. To date, I still can't think why I never noticed this on the test drive.
Then last year I changed the RRS to a Jaguar F-Pace and although it's only the 2.5T petrol engine, it does what it says on the tin (or plastic actually).
Both the dealerships are basically the same sort of people who don't really give a toss once you have paid your money and their service departments, what ever brand of car you drive, are trying to convince you that your car needs "urgent attention" to bakes, suspension, tyres etc when in fact most of it is untrue.
Somebody has to pay for all the muzak, chrome decor, "free" coffee and loan cars.
In summary, the Jaguar is a better car than the Disco Sport and neither of them are as good as a Range Rover Sport. My opinion/experience only.

I can only speak on my own experiences (& that of MrsC). We tested both an F Pace and a Disco Sport before she chose the DS as her company car (SE Tech 180 Ingenium manual) which is coming up for 3 yrs old in March & has now done 56k miles given Covid home working reduced its use.
MrsC ranks the Disco as more comfortable & the better drive & whilst it isn’t quite as “flash” for some, other than an initial tailgate alignment issue, it’s been a great car (& it gets some hard use) - we get between 36-43mpg. Our DS is so good it’s likely it’ll get replaced by a DS hybrid version when it’s due for change.
For £25k you should be able to get a LR dealer car with sensible miles either in SE a Tech or HSE trim with the Ingenium engine.
OP, test drive both cars & see what suits your life style - ours is very much LR territory plus the extra comfort of the DS seats.
