Leaky Defender 90
Discussion
"They all do that Sir"
Right, having got that out of the way, if the 2009 Defender 90 Hard Top I bought in spring was a boat, I'd be busy bailing it out to keep it afloat.
Having had a crawl around in it with a torch during heavy rain, the worst area seems to be the join between the roof section and the lower body. Is the answer to just use a silicon type sealant along that join, or is there anything that can be inserted into the join if the two sections are unbolted and slightly prised apart?

Which bit do you mean by roof section and lower body? Where on the vehicle are you talking?
You could replace the seals, this would be a first step. What age is the vehicle?
But honestly..... yes they all do leak to some extent. And if Land Rover couldn't solve it over the entire production period. You stand little chance as an individual. You should be able to make it acceptable however.

Might be of help.
It sounds like you are saying it's leaking between where the roof side panels meet the rear tub, below the side windows. I sealed mine with a bead of Tigerseal all the way along the join which helped immensely...

^^^ This...As you said in your opening statement “They all do that sir”. So much so, they made a manual dedicated to it.

Just don't seal round the door bottoms too well - otherwise all the water that gets in won't have anywhere to get out... terrible_joke said:
A body engineer from Land Rover goes on an exchange visit to Toyota in Japan and watches the engineers developing the latest Land Cruiser bodyshell. He notices that on the workbench they have a cat in a small cage and he asks what it's for. The Japanese engineer tells him when they have finished a Land Cruiser they lock a cat in it and go home. If the cat is dead when they return in the morning they know the shutlines on the doors are up to their high standards. The LR guy likes this idea and when he gets back to Solihull he takes a cat to work and locks it in a Defender and goes home for the night. When he returns in the morning the cat is gone.
