2009 freelander 2 2.2 diesel, 93000 miles. I've noticed a noise from the front end when turning right. The noise sounds like it may be coming from the front left, but can't be entirely sure. No issues when in a straight line/turning left so don't think CV joint/wheel bearing. No noise when moving the steering with the car static so don't think it's steering related. It seems to be at it's worst around 50mph but is present from around 20mph up to motorway speeds (I haven't tried driving faster and cornering hard to see if it goes away at any point...). Best way to describe the noise is probably as a "drone", almost like a vibration being transmitted through the chassis. Noise comes in as soon as the car begins to yaw, literally the moment you can feel in the steering wheel that you're applying some steering load and the slack is taken up in everything (there is no excessive slack, just the sort of usual feeling of a 10+ year near 100k mile car). Noise stays there the whole time the car is turning and then once the steering load comes off it goes away.

Tyres recently changed, noise unaffected, no uneven/suspicious wear on any tyres. I could imagine a failed/failing engine mount allowing extra movement/vibration through to the chassis when under lateral load from turning, does this sound feasible? Car is due a service soon-ish so will mention it, but any one got any experience of this?

Could be a wheel bearing, only noisy when under the extra stress of the
See what comes up when it has the service.

Have you checked the plastic wheel arch linings are secure?
Could be the inner edge of the tyre rubbing on the liner.
Just a thought.
