Obviously you'd expect the new Def to be better than the old but worth a watch..

Old Def on off road tyres, new one on road tyres.

Sounds like a fair test....

Is it better or just different? The old one is a utility vehicle. The new one is not; it's a small Range Rover.

If you wanted to use one to transport yourself pretty much anywhere in some comfort, you'd get the new one. If you want to transport sheep dogs and fencing around your hill farm, you'd get the old one.

End of story, surely??

Indeed, but in a world where you didn't have to choose either a new or an old Defender and you were free to buy from another manufacturer, you wouldn't choose either Defender for either job because compared to the competition they're both crap.

And yet the new one still performed better.

That's the quarry I did the Land Rover experience day at smile
I've only skipped through but I think they don't go anywhere that we didn't in the Disco and Disco Sport on road tyres.

There's nothing like enough shouting on this thread. How about someone suggests the Disco is better than any Defender, old or new? Or maybe try the "new Defender is even more girly then an Evoque" line?

Sorry, I'm new around here hehe

I actually genuinely like the look of the old Defender but it's a horrid thing to own and drive and unless you have a fetish for wearing camouflage, a pet fluffy sheep or pretending to be in the army I just don't get why people still own them when there are other alternatives out there. The new Defender however rights all whats wrong (to me) about the old model, and still looks pretty cool. However I still can't quite get my head round the pricing of them but am watching this space wrt to the 90 Hardtop Commercial smile
