I have to frequently adjust the parking brake on my 1996 Defender - about every three months or so.

The cable is in good condition and the linings don't rub the drum when the parking brake is released.

Any bright ideas what else I can check to solve this or increase the interval between adjustments?

Replace it with one of the aftermarket disk systems

Every 3 months seems hugely excessive. Are the shoes or drum worn? What are you actually adjusting?

I thought that.
The adjuster on the drum.

Maybe the adjuster isn’t working correctly. Had it on mine once.

If it really needed adjusting you’d be chewing through brake shoes. Maybe worth stripping the drum down and refreshing/cleaning.

As in slipping?

TBH - On mine, I'm at the point where I'll probably replace the drum & internals. It feels as though the drum itself might be warped, bent or similar.
