have a 66 plate discovery with 54k miles. getting quoted 850 for major service and they are annoying me wanting extra for car etc.

i have v good independent near me but have always used main dealers for service as worried about resale / history.

at this age is it ok to use independent or should i suck it up and stick with main dealer?

thanks

I personally think if it is a 'proper' independent - read a specialist with years of proven good service - people are OK with it.

I'm looking to buy another Discovery at the moment and I am far more interested in the right services being done at the right time than a full Main dealer 'its had the oil done mate' book of stamps.

As my partner demonstrated late last year, a "Full Main Dealer Service History" can mean more than just "paying through the nose for an oil change".

She has an 11yr old BMW, which she has owned from new and has a full main dealer history. The timing chain snapped last year and thanks to that history, BMW supplied a new engine FOC.

Whilst her example isn't a Land Rover, it does show the service history can mean something.

I prefer to see stamps and bills from a good independent than dealer stamps. I just think that a good Indy makes their money fro m repeat business and word of mouth rather than a flashy showroom, so it's in their interests to do a thorough job.

appreciated the random car buying member of the public might not see it that way.
