I have a 2020 RRS with the standard HSE Dynamic 21" '5085' wheels in silver. I have the hybrid which unfortunately can't have wheels over 21", I'm guessing due to the weight of the batteries. I much prefer the grey and diamond cut version of the 5085's, especially against my black car, so I've been looking to buy a set. I figured it's much better value in the long run to buy the second set as I can sell them on again when I'm done with the car, rather than sink the large cost into a refurb of mine which I'll never recoup.

My question is around the TPMS sensors in the wheels. I'm looking at a few wheel/tyre sets of diamond cut 5085's on ebay which look to have been removed from new cars and so should have TPMS sensors fitted. Is my car clever enough to automatically pick up these new sensors and start working, or are the current ones coded to the car, so the new ones will need coding also? I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere after lots of googling as most people are swapping to aftermarket wheels and asking the question. I don't really want to go to the hassle and risk the damage of de-mounting 2 sets of tyres to fish out my existing sensors and swap them to the new wheels.

Any help much appreciated!

According to places that sell the sensors, they have to be coded for your specific vehicle....

Land Rover Range Rover (09-20) TPMS Tyre Pressure Sensor - PRE-CODED - Ready to Fit - LR070840

"Once your order has been received, we then carefully, individually and uniquely pre-programme your TPMS sensors. This is not an "off the shelf" operation.
Each sensor is pre-programmed and set-up specifically for your vehicle. We’ve spent serious time, development and investment with this step to make it simple and straightforward for you."

Cheers, I confirmed this with the main dealer as I was in for some warranty work this week.

For anyone else wondering about this, he said the sensors should be coded to their position, i.e front left, rather than just to the car, and if the wheels are swapped they need the numbers written on the sensor to code them to the car. Not sure if this is entirely correct but it's obviously not as easy as chucking a new set of wheels on and hoping for the best!
