Range Rover Sub Frame Repairs
Discussion
We have a 2 year old Range Rover SV autobiography LWB which has done about 30,000 from new, still covered under manufacturers warranty. It's been a lovely car, has had 5 main dealer services and although not fault free is a nice car to cover long distances. The customer service from new has been pretty appalling.
A few weeks ago it went in with a clicking noise from the steering, subsequently they have said that the steering rack needs replacing, so would be off the road for a few days, they then said that whilst removing the rack they have sheared off the bolts which attach to the subframe and as its a safety issue they now need to await instruction from the engineering department at LR on how to proceed. They have been sitting on this for 2 weeks now.
The service manager said to me his view was the safest and quickest way would be to replace the subframe, however they have now come back and said LR have asked the dealer to organise for a specialist company to come in and repair the subframe, so they can then replace the steering rack.
I've got no mechanical experience whatsoever and wondered what the PH view is on this and if this is acceptable?

Drill out, re-tap. May be relatively easy, or more difficult, dependent upon level of access to the sheared bolts. If done carefully, it'll be a completely acceptable way to resolve the issue.
Hardly a major engineering challenge, tbh, but dealerships just want to swap things and have no skills to deal with situations such as this.
