The radio reception on my Defender can be terrible and I think this is mainly related to the location on the rear of the front RH wing.

The aerial electrical connections are clean and corrosion free and there is a bonding wire from the base of the antenna ground plane to the bulkhead so

I'm ruling out the electrical connection aspect and looking more at relocating the antenna higher up.

Before I get the tools out is poor radio reception a common thing in Defenders or have I missed something?

ETA:
Other options are an antenna amplifier such as this:

or this:

But if the antenna is in a poor location that is the easiest fix and first thing I'd do.

Maybe try a different antenna. I have a fairly simple rubber duck in the same location and have no reception problems. At least not on FM. AM not so good.
However, I'm looking to put in a DAB unit at some time s may need to change that.

I have no trouble at all with radio reception, standard aerial, standard location. I’d think something is wrong with your set up.

Hi,
the problem has been solved - the screw where the aerial hinges was a bit loose.
