Hoping for some hell from fellow PHers. My wife’s Velar is approaching the end of its 3 year warranty and will be due it’s first MOT soon.

I’ve been offered a trade in of £32500 by my nearest LR dealer and have been eyeing up an Sport as a replacement.

The Velar was a dealer launch spec and as such has every conceivable extra, things I wouldn’t spec on price but that actually I really do like. It has the lot and makes a great family wagon.

My quandary is, the car feels a little tired now (48000 miles), not as smooth. If I keep it, it’ll be MOTed, warranty extended and probably new tyres all around would there be anything else maintenance wise I can do to make the car feel a little fresher? Perhaps replace suspension joint seals etc...

Alternative is trade in, make up the difference and buy a decent spec RRS. Possibly the HST but right now, I’d sooner keep the cash.

Any advice appreciated.

When you say tired, what do you mean exactly? My RRS is coming up to 40k and must say it doesn't feel tired at all beyond a few scratches and scuffs that could do with sorting.

Options on cars are a pain, I used to spec the crap out of my BMWs but when I was looking at Macan I simply could not find one single car that matched my old 3er for options. In the end I decided that the Macan was too small anyway and ended up with the RRS in Autobiography spec. Unless you have oodles of dosh you may have to compromise on all those goodies that you've now got so used to.

Tired as in the ride just isn’t as smooth as it once was. The car feels a little looser in the corners. Tyres are still good though I think I’ll move away to something that isn’t LR original tyres. That may help.

That’s where I am with this with regard extras. I absolutely live the adaptive cruise and lane assist as it’s great for trips to S. France and anything longer than a few hours on the motorway. Funnily enough it’s the nearly new autobiography spec RRS that I’ve been looking at. Around £60k. There is however an HSE up at £52k locally in red. Adaptive cruise, 7 seats, towbar, well specced. No sunroof. Breaking that over specced duck is difficult!

Are you sure its not a psychological thing? Perhaps test drive another Velar and see how much difference you do feel.

But sounds like you just fancy an upgrade, so just be honest and go and get it hehe

Odd that you think it's looser in the corners. I'll bet it isn't and hyphen's on the money, you just want a new toy! I do regular trips to Croatia so the extras really do make a difference, if you were just popping to the store they'd be overkill. I've driven the entire range of LRs apart from the Velar (and the new Defender) and the RRS is the sweet spot for us in terms of comfort and all the rest of it. The Velar has always left me a bit cold, I've no doubt it's a fine car and all that but there was just something about it that didn't work for me.

Oh yes, no sunroof would be a deal breaker for me.

Hah! You are pretty much spot on. The Velar was bought late 2017 as the RRS was just about to launch the 2018 model and the full fat RR didn’t have the new double screen display.

It’s just the psychology of parting with the money. Gets harder as I get older!

I’ve got a RRS with a fixed sunroof, hardly ever use it and I’m thinking about changing mine I’d be quite happy to do without one.

I think used values on these are headed into the toilet given the crazy cheap lease deals on them of late. A lot of used velars are going to hit the used market in 18 months imho.
