Hi,

Considering my options for a new family car and somewhat tempted by a 2018 old shape SVR with 19k on the clock for about £67 asking price.

Question is: this would be my first Landrover and you hear the usual story of these cars being incredibly unreliable. Fact is, I’ve tried all the reliable marques and they’ve let me down terribly but what are the things to watch out for on these SVR’s? Is the ride comfort that bad (wife will drive it a lot and complain if it is)

I have a 2018 new shape though and the car is terrific. I have had it from new and it has not had one fault, in fact, its just been serviced today and all that was needed was a navigation update. I absolutely love the thing. I know a few with the older model and again their cars have been solid. I find the ride very relaxing as i had the old model sport before this and this one rides better , try one and wear your ear protectors.

Nice one, thank you. This is good to read. My wife wants the new GLE and of course I’m keen on the SVR. Let’s see

Make sure your Wife is ok with the noise.
I had a 2017 SVR and the exhaust noise is loud, disproportionately with the revs in my opinion. I believe the facelift is modified.

Great car to drive that aside.

Yeah. She gets embarrassed by the noise. That being said, I live in doting west London. 16 years no claims and a clean license and best insurance I can get with admiral is £5040!! Axa have done £1658 and this is multi car policy. Guess they get stolen an awful lot

Have you thought getting the supercharged range rover
I bought 65(2015) plate Autobiography with just 30,00o miles it is great bit of kit and has 510 BHP and goes very well plus it is very smooth and handles well for its size.It has fair bit of grunt 0-60 5.1 secomds.
MPG runs between 18.2 tto 19.60 but i am not that worried but it very relaxing on long runs
Insurance was £ 970 and great deal on my AMG A45 with admiral as well
I have had nearly a year and no regrets

The dealer is offering 10.9% APR. Any tips as to other better deals you could get?

If the dealer is offering a finance deposit then take their finance and settle it soon after. Depending on how much you want to borrow there are plenty of 3% loan deals around.

BTW I also recommend driving the full-fat Range Rover, it’s a much nicer place to be than a RR Sport. More comfortable and your wife will love it. I’m on my 6th smile

With deals like these flying around I don't know why anyone would buy a used one at 10.9% APR!

I have a 2016 SVR, had it for over a year now and had no problems at all with it (I’ve had quite a number of Range Rovers and had a few issues but I’ve found them as reliable as BMWs and better than every Porsche I’ve had, I do however a small sample!). In terms of ride quality I think it’s pretty good, it’s not as smooth as the full fat RR and is harder than the equivalent diesel sport but it’s still pretty comfy.
