The car has been parked up for a year and, although it has been started and run to keep the battery up a number of times during that time, the battery is now completely dead. And the car's deadlocked so using the mechanical key in the passenger door lock doesn't open it (I've tried)!

Before I remove the bottom cover, will I be able to access the starter motor or alternator wiring from underneath? No point rolling around in the dirt if it's not going to get me anywhere.....

That's annoying, especially as the ability to use the key in the passenger door, is for this type of situation.

Does it have the trailer electrics fitted? If so, you _might_ be able to apply enough power through the trailer socket, to get the car unlocked.

Failing that, do you have breakdown cover coz they're usually pretty good with the little 'tricks' for getting around things like this.

You can get to the starter quite easy, not tried the alternator.

Yes, if it ever gets laid up in future I'll leave it single locked! Or fit an Anderson connector somewhere accessible from outside.

Alas no, that would probably have worked.

Again, no. But a couple of others have asked that. We do have a few motors too, so it might be time I looked into it. I did used to have RAC cover as it covered whatever you were driving, I don't know if they still operate like that.

Thanks for your input, M.

Thanks for that. It does have the later Ford engine, but someone told me it's inaccessible. I'll give it a go, anything's better than having to damage it to get in.

I've arranged breakdown cover this morning. I have one other idea that might get me in which I'll have a look at tomorrow first then, if necessary, call them out.

Once we're in it's MOT time then we should be good to go!

Breakdown/recovery won't come out as the car's under a SORN. Got nowhere underneath the engine so it's down to desperate measures. The upside is I've found some drop glass for £20 delivered....
