L405 battery charging
Discussion
Hi this maybe a daft question but I will ask anyway.
I like many others have not been using my car and thought I should charge the battery something I have not done before on the RR.
I thought I would look to see if there is a method recommended rather than just using the terminals under the bonnet, And it seems the official line is take it to the dealer to prevent damage to the electronics.
Am I ok just to use the terminals under the bonnet? its a ctek MX5 charger if that makes any difference.
Cheers Rob

I have DS.
Not using it very much since lockdown began. About a month ago I had a low battery warning light come on. After a lot of research I found out that if the electric tailgate is very slow or doesn't operate (which was the case), it means the battery is very low and needs charging, and possibly may need replacing to be done by a LR MD which is not possible as they are all shut for now. Luckily, I got myself a battery charger and after being on charge over two days the battery was fully topped up and I've not had any issues since. My car has stop/start and if you have this you need a special battery charger which was what I bought. As for connections, I simply followed logic: connected the charger to the mains but not switched on, then connected the negative to the battery terminal, then the positive, switched on the power and all went well. Once charged, I reversed the procedure. I read somewhere that the negative lead should be connected to some metal bodywork but when I did so I found nothing happened.
More recently I received an e mail from LR about maintaining the vehicle during a period of little use as per the lockdown. among several things, it recommended running the engine for 30 minutes each week to maintain the battery in good order.
All about my DS I know, but maybe this will help you.

I've more experience of buggering around with L405 battery's than I'd care to remember.
You should be able to access the battery terminals by removing the spare wheel. Hook the ctek clamps directly to the battery and charge that way.
Charging it before its flat will save you no end of bother for 5 minutes work. An overnight charge should keep it going for ~4 weeks of inactivity.

Those of us with milk float 4-pots just plug in the PHEV charging cable and it also tops up the 12V gubbins. Also my official Land Rover COVID letter said to run the petrol engine, by disabling Stop/Start, for 15 minutes every 2 weeks with climate set to 22C. I am doing as I am told, I don’t want a warranty drama later.
