I noticed this afternoon that some low life has stolen the spare wheel on our MY19 disco 5. It looks as though they have cut the wire. It must have happened recently whilst the car was parked on our driveway.

Really frustrating as I’m sure it’s going to cost a fortune to replace. Our insurance company just confirmed a claim would increase our premium next year and for the following 5yrs (I guess that means protected no claims means nothing these days).

Has this happened to anybody else on here? If so, approx how much did it cost to replace and did you install any aftermarket device to prevent future thefts? The LR ‘plate’ obvs doesn’t work as ours had that.

Grrrr.

Dave.

Same happens on the D3 and D4 too, as well as transit vans.

You can get shields which cover the cable so it can't be cut.

Wow, I thought even LR would have fixed that issue by now

Ours (Disco 4) went when we did valet park at Gatwick (the official one)

There is a newer style winch that has a sleeve which is supposed to stop this, or a wheel protector

I bought a replacement one on eBay. I wonder where it came from rolleyes

To reduce costs, look for a base model wheel with a worn tyre

I’ve checked under the car and we have the newer winch model with the sleeve, so not sure how they managed to cut it. I also know it had the metal disk as I had to change the spare wheel a few months ago.

Will try and find a replacement on eBay. Probably buy my own one back :-(

We had ours nicked 9 months ago, it had had the recall and upgrade done.... complete waste of time. Haven’t bothered to replace it as some lowlife will take it again. A friend in his discovery had a puncture On the A34 (no spare as also nicked) called the AA and they took it away got a new tyre fitted, returned and put it back on the vehicle, and just charged for the tyre.

Ours also had the newer winch mechanism it’s the wire cover and the black metal plate that goes into the spare. I’d changed the wheel only a few weeks earlier so know it was there!

Haven’t replaced it yet...

I attended the pre launch of the then Freelander 2 at Gaydon Centre.

In attendance where the heads of each department that designed and built the vehicle.

I asked where is the 'land Rover' trademark rear spare ? afteral the earlier Freelander had one on the rear door.

The reply was ....... too many spares are stolen so it was placed in a well under the rear floor, only accessible from inside the boot.

soon found a solution ........
