My D4 has occasionally been a bit harsh changing gear for a few months (since I got the gearbox flushed...) and now is sometimes hunting slightly for a gear and the revs rise but not much drive happens. Twice now it's lost all drive, shown a gearbox fault and just revved, but has reset once I've stopped and restarted it.

It was booked in to the local indy who did the flush for next week but they are now shutting up shop as they have family members who are high risk. Yay. frown

So I'm on my own, and the first stop seems to be a code reader. Hawkeye seems to be the dogs doodahs but at £359 + £80 for a lead maybe excessive, icarsoft is more palatable at £136.

Plus if anyone can suggest what the issue is that'd be great! beer

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sale-gap-iid-blueto...

Iid tool is the best for your needs.

Plus the Bluetooth version commands a decent resale value of £300+ so you won’t lose much on it.

Had mine for 5 years, superb bit of kit. Lives in the car and works off my iPhone.

Annoyingly they don't have any in and no idea when they will. Also the bloke posting doesn't work there any more...

Having a look elsewhere....

I have no patience, so I ordered one from BAS. Cheers.

Both local Indies are shut, localish gearbox place will have a look Monday if they're not shut. banghead

I'm eyeing up shed convertibles on autotrader to see me through. biggrin

Is it the 6 or 8 speed?

My 6 speed used to clunk a bit with abrupt changes every no and then.

It helped if I put it in low box, and ran it up and down the gears a few times, then same again in high.

Think it was the adaptations from sitting in traffic etc.

Might help, might not, but it's free and easy to try.

The gearbox shop suggested it's possibly low fluid, possibly borked. I know which one I'm hoping. eek (I'll have a crawl round underneath at the weekend...)

Hmmm, this is a varied bunch and all fairly recent. The battery is definitely starting to struggle, so it possible it's all down to electrics??

It certainly won't help.

Are you getting any warning on startup after it's been sat a while?

Definitely worth getting a ctek at least.

No warnings, but it did fail to start after using a small tyre compressor last May and shuts itself down if you put the radio on for a bit. Sure it's not helped by short journeys with heated everything in plus the wipers and lights all winter but it's been suspect for a while.

I've ordered a new battery so we'll see how it goes after that.

After all that... I changed the battery and it seemed a bit better but it massively, did a soft reset and again maybe a bit better but basically it got worse and worse over lockdown. I was convinced I needed a new box and was crapping myself over the bill but finally the indie opened again and after a couple of weeks the local LR parts department...

And it turns out it was the bush on the gear selector on the side of the box. It had seized so whenever I asked too much (Which wasn't very much by the time I got it looked at!) of the car the engine would shift slightly and the selector would move rather than the bush. Two hours labour and a bit of grease and it's sorted. woohoo
