Land Rovers & Range Rovers had a reputation for being easily stolen a few years ago. Has that changed? The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to buy a new Range Rover Sport, and don't want it getting taken off my driveway. Are precautions like keeping the keys in a Faraday bag and fitting steering locks necessary these days?

I believe a raft of updates were introduced at 18MY to mitigate relay theft. The supplying dealer should be able to confirm for you.

Constant cat and mouse game, Land Rover aren’t always great at being ahead of the curve ,

As a current owner . Steering lock is always a good idea, it can help putting off people before they’ve started (I.e window smashed etc)
My insurance also wanted a cat5 tracker and I added a ghost aswell.

I've got a Vogue and a Sport and whilst I was told that with updates etc they are safer, they are both still comfortably in the top 10 of stolen cars in the UK.

I live in a nice quiet area, not sure if its a good or a bad thing, but I have taken some measures to try to keep them.

- Blink cameras around the house perimeter
- Keys kept in a faraday box in the house
- Category 5 Trackers on both (The Vogue already had it installed when I bought it used, but I had one fitted to the Sport)
- And Stoplock Pro steering locks on both (The tracker installer and the guy who did our home alarm system said its basic, but the best deterrent)

One of my colleagues had his RRS stolen recently - the thieves were filmed on CCTV with a laptop and an aerial or similar and within 90 seconds they were in the car and away. Keys were in a faraday case in the fridge apparently!

I don't imagine this is only a Land Rover issue but I certainly do not think the security is sufficient without some additional physical measures being put in place (disclock etc).

I thought things had improved, but then a friend had his new Sport stolen. So it's back to the steering lock which is a faff, but better than it being taken I guess.

Don't think it's just Land Rovers. Seems to be BMWs as well from what I hear.

I recently checked the value of my owned-from-new L405 Autobiography and I can’t be bothered with the Diskloc any more.

Thieves might be doing me a favour.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I'm not keen on using a steering wheel lock because I don't like them sliding around the cabin while I am driving, and if I was to have an accident, the thought of being hit by an airborne Stoplok is not very attractive. But, on the other hand, I don't really want a valuable car stolen.

All new cars seem to be fitted with an S5 tracker, I think, which seems to be what some insurers require.

Get an Autowatch Ghost fitted, highly unlikely to get stolen unless picked up by a crane.
