My elderly 2005 supercharged, which I've had from new, has gone a bit mental.

First the rear wiper stopped working, then the heated steering wheel and now it can't be driven in auto as it won't shift out of 1st.... so needs to be in 'sports' mode to change gear.

I've pinged my garage an email, but wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks

Battery failing? These things can be sensitive to that kind of thing.

Could be.... although previously when a battery went, the radio stopped, then aircon... and various other things that were not essential.

But maybe you’re right.

unless the car has developed multiple faults at once (which is unlikely) and the fact the gearbox will shift out of 1st if in sport mode, then it's highly unlikely to be the gearbox and much more likely to be a more general electrical issue.

As an update - just in case other owners have something similar....

It turns out to be a faulty brake light switch.... who'd have thunk?

If the gearbox thinks you're braking it will not shift up a gear. Part ordered and hopefully fixed tomorrow or Friday.

I am not sure if the other issues are related (rear wiper, heated steering, steering wheel volume control are all not working) - it could be one of the mysteries of the CANBUS system - or a massive coincidence.
