Looking to get back into a Range Rover after previously having a 54 reg 4.4V8 and was wondering what would be considered the safer, more logical option in terms of reliability and usability; late model L322 4.4TDV8 or an early L494 Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6? I looked at late model Discovery 4's as well but I have near enough talked myself out of that one!

Budget is up to around £27-30k, but obviously if the better option is cheaper then all the better!

Cheers guys

Neither of those FFRR are Euro 6 compliant if that makes any difference to you. I'm looking for a similar sort of thing but the future residual value of a non-Euro 6 compliant doesn't look good. You could look at the L322 in 5litre SC spec but you won't get into the newer model for that budget.

Disco 4 from 2015 is Euro 6, I tried one yesterday in HSE spec and I'm just not sure about it. Felt like a cross between a van and a school bus and although very comfortable in a straight line it didn't feel particularly premium with hard seats, a terribly dated navigation system and HGV like handling. Engine had a bit more poke than I expected though and it was quiet.

Euro 6 doesn't really bother me at the minute, don't travel to too many of the towns and cities that will effect my use of the vehicle.
Looking at getting a caravan so would be used for towing.
The 5.0 is interesting, but haven't found any at a decent price, whereas the 4.4 is good value in comparison.
I liked the idea of the Discovery, as the missus has a car that is more fun to drive if I want to, and the idea of it being big and slow, and a little van like kind of appeals as it will keep me on the safe side of the law, but I may end up regretting it and wanting something a bit more refined.
