Range Rover Sport 2010-2013
Discussion
Hi All,
Been looking at getting a RRS 3.0 diesel and have around £15k to spend. Whilst there are plenty of cars to choose from I keep reading the forums about the impending ‘doom’ of turbos, suspension, timing belts etc.
Are these age RRS really that unreliable? With my budget I’m looking at 60 thousand plus miles from what I can find.
Obviously a car this old won’t have LR warranty. Any pointers for cars to look out for?
Many thanks,
Doris

Could be worth looking up a well regarded third party warranty company as at least it will give you some reassurance/backup.
If you are 100% going for a Land Rover then I'd buy an icarsoft LR 2.0 or borrow one if you can. It will read all the JLR codes and also initiate an Active Regen which will show you how much soot is in the dpf and give you an idea of its condition and how the car has been driven.
I'd take it for a pretty extensive test drive and check every switch and button many times, including all of the door opening and locking methods. Then scan the codes again and see if anything pops up. It's a great tool to have during ownership as well, even the dpf regen feature alone pays for itself.

In a similar boat myself and some LOTS of research!
The facelift on 2010 brought a much nicer, more luxurious interior along with the 3.0tdv6 motor used in the Disco. They are renowned for snapping crankshafts without warning, a good warranty from Warranty Direct has been shown to cover this.
Belts need doing at 7 years or 100k which is a big job but essential so make sure any prospective purchase has had it done or factor it in
Electronic parking brake can give trouble, it needs checking on 9 year service but can give problems if left unchecked/adjusted and can’t result in new module being needed which is suggested at around £1k.
Cord doing brake pipes crop up and the active anti roll bar system can leak.
Any forum will be littered with people posting about problems or issues as that’s what a forum is for, a good video worth watching is this one -

As he suggests all cars in this class have their issues and problems which won’t be cheap to fix however nothing quite gives you the sense of occasion like a Range Rover.
I have listed after one since they first came out in 2005 and Top Gear did the piece where JC was being chased around a tank proving ground in a tank - incredibly capable!
Good time of year to get into one too!
Good luck, keep us posted.
