Trying to help a friend out who wants to ship a Defender the US of A.

We need to work out how to establish that the engine is original to the Chassis for importation - is there anyway that we can check these numbers match?

Any help appreciated!

https://www.firstfour.co.uk/land-rover-vin

Check the engine type is as defined on the VIN as above.

VIN relates to homologation and build specifications, if they don't match rightly expect hassle.

Thank you Sir, we seem to have the information required.

Interestingly, the shipping company mentioned that the last Defender they had refused, was because the rivet on the VIN plate looked too new for the vehicle.....

Scary stuff

You are welcome.
I understand there is a legal chap in the USA who specialises in cases concerning Defenders and that US customs are very skilled at detecting vehicles of dubious origin. I think I read about the legal chap on expeditionportal.com or pirate4x4 forums. Good luck.

Thank you again,

The vehicle in question is a Ex Carbinari Italian Police vehicle, so it should be specced with the 2.0 T (Rover?) unit, but it seems to have the 2.4 engine currently.

And trying to find another in Italy is challenging!
