L322 3.6 TDV8 Turbo lunched
Discussion
Hi, am looking for some advice. I had booked by 2010 L322 3.6 TDV8 in for a routine service and a couple of additional (non-mechanical) bits and pieces, no previous issues, and the garage have, prior to servicing, taken the car out for a test drive and the left hand turbo has lunched itself.
Car was running fine when I took it in and garage reported no issues when running in the workshop. However, 1 mile later on their test drive, there was a sudden loss of pawer, black smoke out the back then it stopped.
Who is at fault here? Me, the garage, or 50/50. And secondly, anyone recommend a solution to get car back on the road for reasonable money.
Thank you in advance.

Happened to my fathers RR, same year and engine as yours. Needed new engine!Car was running fine when I took it in and garage reported no issues when running in the workshop. However, 1 mile later on their test drive, there was a sudden loss of pawer, black smoke out the back then it stopped.

Don't know how many miles you have, but its very common around 100k miles and up. Almost a consumable!
And almost certainly not something the garage did (but dont let that stop you going after them).
I had my Disco 4 serviced on a Tuesday and on the way home on Wednesday it broke down. Crank had snapped and needs a £10650 engine. But the garage didn't and couldn't have done anything wrong to cause it, after all, all they did was change the oil/filters. It was still of oil after the breakdown by the way.

Thanks Steviesam. Sounds like you have more expensive problems than me!And almost certainly not something the garage did (but dont let that stop you going after them).

On c100k miles so what you're saying seems to stack up. I'm just very annoyed with the attitude of the garage.

And as far as cost, I seem to remember its about £2-3k (happy to be corrected though).
I had both left and right turbos go in quick succession (both the actuators seizing, in my case - due to intermittent use and salt corrosion from where I live).Cost via a specialist, but using OE replacement turbos, was just shy of £2K per side.
