restricted perfomance warning triangle (RED)

Don't panic and just keep an eye on it for now.
It could simply be a sensor reporting something strange, which the ECU didn't understand, so it had a 'brain fart'. Restarting the car is the same as rebooting your computer when it has a problem.
If it becomes a regular thing, don't bother changing filters, batteries or any other parts because you could end up wasting money chasing a problem. Get it plugged into a fault code reader and diagnose it properly.

many thanks fellas,
I've got my mate coming round to plug his diagnostics machine in, i'll see what that comes up with and go forward with that.
Oh and it's a 2010 D4 TDV6 GS with about 90,000 miles on the clock and it was serviced in March, haven't had any other issues other than an ABS sensor fail which was an eye opener, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, you wouldn't believe that a 25 quid part could cause so much trouble.

I mind reading somewhere that JLR tend to put a fair amount through the same canbus or something along those lines, which apparently can cause multiple warnings for a single issue. Not sure how much truth is in it but it kinda makes sense.
I'd highly recommend buying the icarsoft lr2.0 as for such a small cost it reads all the codes and can give peace of mind. Also allows you to force an active regen of the dpf - very handy.

In lieu of the OP being 4rsed to come back and close the thread...(VERY rude).
I've had this happen on a FL2, friend had exactly the same on a FFRR V8 denzil last week. Intermittent and can bung out black smoke form the tailpipe. No errors reported when plugged in.
Issue was a split intercooler hose.

Whats the mileage, I just had restricted performance error fixed by replacing cracked inlet manifold on drivers side. Common issue it seems.
I have a similar problem, I can accelerate through the revs without a problem but the restricted performance on triggers at 70 mph plus- would that indicate its the inlet manifold issue at all?thks

yes sorry not sure how I missed that. In my case it was exhibiting itself during acceleration where more boost would be required.thks
One way of checking is to pull the top engine cover (it will just come off with a good tug) and look at both black plastic inlet manifolds - if there's oil residue on them its quite clear give away that manifold is cracked I was told.
