Hi folks,

So in March I ordered a Velar from my local dealer, with the promise of delivery at the end of Apr or early May. This was perfect as my current car is going back to VW at the end of May and the dealer said I can take delivery when I need it. So after chasing the dealer as to if the car has arrived, it seems it hasn't and due to the WLTP testing, they do not anticipate it coming in until mid- late June - date to be specified.

Typically this wouldn't be an issue, apart from the fact my existing car goes back to the manufacturer (got it on PCP) and I will be without a car from between 2-4 weeks, my wife uses the car also for the school run and we have a newborn as well so pretty reliant on having a car.

I have asked the dealer to see what they can do, the only thing they can suggest is finding me another car but with a 'better' spec than I had ordered, but the rub being, I gotta pay more $$$ for the privilege.

Any suggestions on what I should do/ask the dealer. I am waiting for the sales chap to ping me a note later on this week with some suggestions his end - maybe a courtesy car until the Velar turns up?

Absolutely. A courtesy car until the Velox turns up is the least they can do.

Mrs. DR ordered a new Jag XE company car last year and they got the specification wrong to a level that the dealer could not correct, so she politely but firmly informed them that they could make her another one and that she would be expecting a courtesy car of the same specification or better until it arrived. They complied.

In fact the only downside of the whole episode was the colour of the courtesy car - after 6 weeks with it she found herself thinking "I wish I'd ordered mine in this colour instead"...

A courtesy car is what I would prefer as it keeps the family in a car. I don't want to take the mick by making unreasonable demands, nonetheless I did only order the car on the proviso it would arrive for when I needed it!

Will update on what they come back with, looking forward to other suggestions!

You don't of the same spec to the school run. You need the minimum to get by so I would accept what ever they offer you as long as its reasonable, but I certainly woulndn;t be quibbling over a SE vs HSE etc etc. This is especially valid if you want a car for free for x weeks whilst your new car arrives.

As a general rule if you want something quicker, then it will cost you more. That's just how it works. Based on that, you could pay more money and get a car now and in a better spec.

No issue with the courtesy car, just something to get me by for a couple weeks, would happily take an old shape Evoque.

Needless to say, the issue is that I bought the car on the proviso of securing delivery when I needed it, there was enough buffer in there, i.e. they were expecting the car early May and I needed it late May.

To be honest, I would like the car I ordered with the spec I wanted, and I don't want to be forced into another car with a better spec and have to foot the increased bill for 36 months.
