Just ordered discovery sport good or bad idea
Discussion
As title suggests I have just ordered a discovery sport landmark edition
To be fair deal was very good.
But have since been reading reviews and I am close to canceling my order.
I know that if people have had no problems they very rarely post in the web but there is a lot of people moaning about these cars and issues
I was looking forward to getting it in six weeks but not so sure now
What are the thoughts on here.

Did you order it from your local dealer, and what are they like?To be fair deal was very good.

That's the thing that's put me off more than anything else - our local one has a terrible reputation and there isn't another within sensible reach.
SWMBO has an 18 plate 180 SE Tech manual that she’s done 24k miles with in the first year. We had a couple of minor warranty jobs due to poor build quality that shouldn’t hsv3 been allowed to leave the factory before delivery though it’s been a good car for her overall. Fuel economy is a little poor, struggling to get much over 40 mpg even driving sensibly on th3 motorway (company fuel card fortunately) though otherwise it’s good. It likes the adblue though we’re still on the front tyres just (about 3mm remaining) & the rears aren’t quite half worn.
I have a 2015 first edition of the DS. It is a HSE Luxury with the Ford 2.2 engine, so not an ingenium. And no Adblue. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago from the local LRMD. It had one owner which was LR themselves so it was a demonstrator, loan car, something like that. Had 7300 miles at the time. Came fully serviced with a two year LR warranty.
It's now up to 29,000 miles. I get it serviced and Mot'd on time by the local LRMD and I have renewed the warranty and will likely continue to do so. At the moment I have no plans to dispense with the car.
I came to it from a Jaguar XF 5.0 V8 n/a and was concerned about the entirely different power, performance, style etc but I'm over that now. I'd say it's an up market utility vehicle and seems to cope with anything I want it to do, I use all 7 seats occasionally which is actually quite useful. I like all the large storage areas, charging points etc, the panoramic roof and the performance is OK. I also like the way it is planted on the road and the really nice steering. Dislikes are the satnav and the somewhat disappointing mpg.
It's been very reliable, no serious issues at all. The tailgate lock failed and was replaced under warrant. Sometimes the display has a mind of its own but a simple reboot ie stop and start the car, seems to clear these up. Still on original tyres.
All in all, I like it and plan to keep it so I musty be satisfied with it.

My old man has an SE Tech with the newer engine, I have to say I really, really like it.
Infotainment system is however awful. He says it feels so dated compared to his BMW system, which was the CIC I-Drive, so now what? 10 years old.
That is not good.
I guess the facelift will get a newer system?
But overall I would own one, think it is great.
Si4 for me though, not the diesel.

As some have said, confidence in the local dealer is pretty vital as the % likelihood something will go wrong is a bit higher than the average it seems, but if they are good and fix it then sound.
Second step would be to test drive, if you liked it, then thats that box ticked.
On the new one, if you are happy not having the latest one, but knowing you got a stonker of a deal and the above two are met then that would be what would seal it for me.

I would consider the petrol on these, the diesels don't like short journeys, oil service comes up every 7-8k on many cars.
Diesel is around 32-33mpg calulated, petrol is just under 30mpg and so much sweeter.
HSE with the petrol 240hp engine is same price as Landmark with the 180hp diesel.
Look at how much better the petrols hold their value too.
I do 20k miles a year and it works out about £10 a week more in fuel for me if it returned only 25mpg. Reality would be more like £7 a week. For someone doing 12k a year petrol is a no brainer.

Compared to nearly 7k down and £475 for another merc GLC( basic one)
That doesn't make sense? When my old man was looking at swapping the X3, he looked at GLC as first choice, that was £3k down and £390 a month for one with the Premium Plus pack on a GLC220d.
Are you looking at the broker prices?
I have a Disco Sport and a GLC 250. Both are good cars in their own right, and are quite different. I always said if you could merge the engine/gearbox from the Merc to the Disco it would be perfect.
The Disco is far more practical, a lot more room and a better driving position I find. I do think it's let down a bit by the gearbox which even after a software update is a bit sluggish sometimes. The Merc is a fair bit quicker and has a much nicer box. The build quality on the Merc is better but I don't find it as comfortable on longer journeys.
Touch wood the Disco has been pretty reliable, as was my old D3, but it does depend on the car and having a decent dealer helps (mine aren't great!).

Well I got so concerned over the terrible reviews I was reading regarding DPF issues. Balencer shafts . Oil change every 4k and add blue.
So today I cancelled my order. Sad but I know I would spend all my time waiting and worrying about something going wrong.
I know things can go wrong with any car but so many reviews all moaning about the same problems

All the issues are with diesel.
Why would you want a diesel anyway? You are only doing 10k a year, guessing based on monthly figures.
180hp vs 240hp and so much nicer with it.
I simply can't understand why the UK keeps buying diesels to do 10k miles a year.
I do just over 20k a year and swapped from a 3.5 litre 306hp E Class estate to super efficient B47 engined 520d Touring.
Complete waste of fking time!
I reckon I am saving £9 a week at the pump.
DS 180 diesel vs 240 petrol will be about a fiver.

If you were not just buying the deal and genuinely like the DS then you should reconsider an HSE 240 petrol as mentioned above.
A 2019 model year with either petrol engine removes nearly all the issues/irritations that crop up from owners forums, particularly if you specify it with adaptive dynamics.
You're still left with a sat nav that lags behind the best, but it's perfectly usable.
We've got a 240 petrol HSE Luxury as a family car. The only vehicle that would be better for our needs is a 525 V8 Range Rover Sport at twice the price, and the only area it truly improves on is performance.
If you don't need the occasional 7 seats, I'd be trying to get an F-pace in budget. It surprises me every time I drive my father's in a spirited fashion how balanced and neutral it feels for an SUV.
