Consequence of failing Defender td5 crank pulley damper
Discussion
Defender td5. Since last week there's an occasional rattle and squeak noise and I think the crank damper pulley is beginning to fail - I can see it wobble about a mm or so every time there a rattle or a squeak.
I will fix it - but don't have the chance to do so immediately. What are the potential consequences of carrying on driving? I read somewhere that on tdi engines it may result in the need for a new crankshaft or a difficult repair of the woodruff key.
Is it the same on a td5?
Edited to add:
Land Rover original part is £530+VAT. does anyone have experience with the Bearmach replacement unit (approx £200+VAT)? I'm assuming the cheap sub £100 units on Ebay are rubbish and won't last.
