If you've got an 2015/17 Evoque BE WARNED! the new ingenium engined cars are fitted with a DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) system.
On the above models a common fault had been noticed, that being, if you refill the DEF reservoir yourself you will probably trigger a fault (inferior DEF fluid detected). This fault can sometimes be reset via a diagnostic scanner, but often needs to have the tank drained, refilled, pressurised and reset, this can be quite expensive (Guy Salmon, wanted £180 for the initial diagnostic check and then 2 hours labour at £180 per hour to rectify the fault).
Halfords have looked into this AdBlue (major DEF brand) issue because customers have mention this fault occurring when using their own labelled AdBlue.
They asked a number of Land Rover main agents around the country about the issue and were told it is a common fault on this car which was rectified on the 2017/18 models.
However, that doesn't do much to help the rest of us with the earlier models and as they are now coming out of warranty, that, could be an expensive pill to swallow.
Apparently on pre-modified cars the AdBlue has to be added very slowly and not in great quantity (approx 8 ltrs after refill warning).
What I'm concerned about, as I'm sure many others will be, if Land Rover knows this problem exists (hence system design change) why don't they recall the non modified cars and not leave the owners open to unnecessary worry and expense (plus a potentially lower resale value).
Halfords also asked the dealers if Land Rover's own label AdBlue was a superior product to Halfords own label product and were assured that there was no difference. So don't be fooled into thinking you should pay the usually much higher priced Land Rover stuff.
Please pass this information on to other interested parties, it may jolt Land Rover to do the decent thing.

Hi

We have the same problem and have asked Williams RR Main Dealer in Manchester for the following:
We have asked them to sample the end user feedback database of Jaguar Land Rover this will have all the vehicles that have suffered this fault within jlr main dealers (any vehicle that has been connected to the diagnostic system at dealership will automatically update the feedback database for that VIN. The fact that new models have the issue resolved further highlights they know the issue exists have fixed it going forwards but have not done a recall for older models.
Williams are legally obliged under GDPR rules to comply within 40 days ish
In our case they have not so we will be reporting them to the financial ombudsman who will force them (JLR/Williams) to reveal the evidence from other vehicles.

Plus we also have an issue in that the dealer told us the car was covered (warranty) for the 4 year finance agreement.

This JLR created fraud is now rampant with many Jaguar & Land Rover models suffering, I suspect as a result of reduced useage. JLR have, by modifying the software admitted their mistake & yet have left their earlier customers to pay their dealers exhorbitant "investigation" fees.

I have just been quoted £1256.82 for this "update" to be installed on my Jan 2017 F-Pace!
