Condition is everything of course so assuming both are in very good nick, is it worth spending 25% more to get a TDV8 with 55k miles over one with 75k?

And if your first answer was no - if it came with a 12 month LR warranty would you change your mind?

Embarrassingly, I've had a fair few RR's.
Currently have a '18 FRR and a 2006 supercharged.

In between I've had a 2013 tdv8 and both 4.4 BMW and Jag engines.
I've also had two 3.6's,(deisel).

For an l322, I wouldn't buy anything other than another 4.2 supercharged, they just seem to be built better and much more reliable.
Mine is the only car I've kept, I've had it over ten years, and I doubt I'll get rid.
The 2006 drives and rides better than my '18, but it's not as impressive to look at.

I'd just like to point out, that the above is entirely subjective.

Whilst everything I read seems to support your view about the 4.2 SC I'm afraid it's probably just a bit too long in the tooth for me and my needs.

I've pretty much discounted the 5.0 SC due to engine problems, not that the TDV8 is without those either, but the petrol also costs more to buy and insure and it would annoy me on a long run having to keep filling it up. Tell me I'm wrong?

They are ok on big miles. At around 100k my one developed a clunky / jolty gearbox and they are known for this. They can also knock a little on the suspension.

I think they have aged very well. Mine was tdv8...59 plate I think. I have a new shape vogue now.

I've pretty much discounted the 5.0 SC due to engine problems, not that the TDV8 is without those either, but the petrol also costs more to buy and insure and it would annoy me on a long run having to keep filling it up. Tell me I'm wrong?
What 5.0 SC engine problems have you heard about, and where?

LR warranty is for cars under 5 years, my 2013 L322 couldn’t get one at 4 months over but I got a 2 year inchcape warranty instead. Mines on 80k and doesn’t show the miles.

Turbos have a habit of blowing up at 130k and can take the engine with them if unlucky. 2 - 3
K to fix.
Don't believe the speedo, I know I did 130k in my 2012 FF but now it's only got 60k according to the MOT site! Someone will be looking at a big turbo bill soon.

My 2006 4.2 Sport is an amazing machine. I couldn't justify getting rid for a new one.

Buying a used Rangey? Condition and documentation. Mileage largely irrelevant. My Sport doesn't feel like 78k miles. Still very taught.

This is really annoying because it totally screws up servicing and maintenance schedules. Also very worrying if it's done to a car with a belt rather than chain, could be very expensive s well!

I've a 2010 5.0SC FFRR, and an XKR 5.0 S/C - both around 100k'ish mileage. I've had them for about 2-3 years and maybe 10-20k miles each in that time. 1 waterpump in the FFRR, 1 S/C pulley coupler on the Jag.

The 5.0 engines are pretty bullet proof, much better than the TDV8s which to be be fair are indestructable engines, it's just all the bits bolted onto the engine that are problematic, turbos, EGRs, Alternators. My old 3.6 TDV8 needed all those replaced during the 3 years/30K miles I had it until I replaced it at about 120k miles for the 5.0 S/C.

Sorry for my delayed response - I decided the timing wasn't quite right. I was looking at a rare dealer AUC and managed to get them to throw in 12 months warranty as part of the sale. It was around £24.5k for a TDV8 Westminster.

I do 5,000 miles a year with around 2,000 of that made up by a trip to the south of France each summer so I think I'm safer going with a petrol all things considered. It's annoying because the ULEZ and various anti-diesel taxes in inner cities is pushing L322 diesel prices down and the petrol is becoming more expensive and harder to find as there weren't as many in the first place.
