I was hit from behind in my Velar last week on an interstate in Indiana by a 15 year old in a stolen Nissan Rogue doing (by his own admission and witness estimates) 100 MPH.

I was doing around 60 and saw a flash of white in my mirror just before he piled into me. He then spun off and side swiped a Chevy Tahoe before ending up in the wall. The impact was hard, fortunately the split second of warning I had allowed me to turn the wheel to the right at impact so that I went off towards the shoulder rather than being spun into the traffic.

The Velar is a bit of a mess, wheel buckled, suspension obviously broken, rear wing crumpled, tire shredded. Still waiting for the full verdict from the loss adjuster as the car is being stripped down right now. However, I was unhurt and all doors and the trunk still opened. The passenger cabin was not compromised at all. The Rogue was unrecognizable. I am very grateful that I was in a Land Rover.

A young girl piled into the back of my wife’s D4 last week. The tow bar cover fell off and the reflector broke. There’s also a small scuff in the plastic trim on the lower bumper.

The Honda Civic was undrivable...

Amateurs wink

1 partial forwardflip and 3 full rollovers down a hillside. No injuries, all doors opened and probably could of driven it away!

Driver error, pure and simple, overran a corner, unfortunately there was a metre+ vertical drop off into a valley over a stone wall....

NOT what is usually meant by going off-road in a Land Rover.

Glad you were ok. Shame about your car and, no doubt, your wallet, though.

Any pictures of the Velar?

Be interesting to see how it stood up from what is a fair hit.

Is it the HSE with glass roof? Did the roof pop if so?

This was taken the following morning. He hit me at an angle on the left rear. There’s obviously quite a bit of damage underneath. Repair estimate is $27k.

Must have damaged or destroyed the suspension mounts etc for that.

For the accident you described, I’m very surprised at the Velars lack of surface damage.
Especially with modern cars built to crumple in crashes.

It did very well.
Hopefully the repairs go smoothly for you.

I think if he had hit me squarely at the back or further into the side it would have been worse. The fact that the impact was on the corner was probably a good thing. If I'd been in my Aston I probably wouldn't be here to tell the tale....

It is (or was!), no it definitely didn’t pop. Pretty sure it was damaged, but remained in 1 piece and attached. Strangely however a drinks bottle that was in the car ended up sticking out wedged between windscreen and roofline. Never got it back......

Blimey, that’s pretty amazing. The airbag curtains certainly seem to have done their job.

Repair estimate now $37k. Pushing hard for the insurance company to total it.

Thread revival, but this level of honesty deserves recognition.
