Freelander 1 clutch pedal won't go all the way down.
Discussion
My freelander 1 td4 2005 (55) has had a problem with the clutch pedal where it:
A) doesn't come back up on its own sometimes
B) when I push it as far down as it goes the gear will still be actuated, hence I can't get it into gear (happens same time as A, solved by pulling it back up with some force)
C) the pedal sometimes disconnects from (what I think) is the slave or master cylinder (sorry I'm not too car savy I'm 17 and have only been driving a couple months) At the moment this isbt an issue as its held on with zip ties.
Points A and B have been a big problem this morning, as normally if the car wouldn't go into gear due to point B I'd stop the engine, put it in gear, and restart it, and sort it when I was somewhere safe. But this morning I couldn't start the car when I put it into gear like this as the car was trying to pull itself forward, even with the clutch as far down as I can get,so I ended up pushing it into my college car park from the main road where its now parked.
My dad has told me this is because the pedal is bent, but it doesn't make sense why parts A and B would occur from this.
I'm sorry if this isn't clear as I'm confused to it so feel free to ask questions but I just want to know really how far into my savings I'll have to go to sort this with a garage or how hard it would be for me to do it.
Thanks

Had the same on my 2003 TD4, couple of things to try:-
1) Check level of clutch fluid in reservoir at the rear of the engine bay
2) System may also need bleeding
3) Master cylinders appear weak and prone to failure, fairly easy to change and about £50
I ended up fitting a new master cylinder, about 30mins work and bleeding but not 100% sure is fully resolved. Suspect have a weeping slave cylinder but this is in the bell housing so is a big job to change and beyond my skills or desire!
