I was approached but a friend with the above question. Wanted to make first entry into RR ownership. Although I am reasonably knowledgeable about some cars, my comprehension of Range Rovers is a little less than my understanding of knitting or brain surgery....

Would be grateful if I could get some sense of the most reliable models and/or years. Reliability is the #1 item this person wants.

Many thanks

I had a last gen Disco 4. Worked fine for 30000 miles after I pointed out all the issues after the PDI had been done!

Old man had a RRS from 2015, again worked fine, his current face lift one...don’t ask!

I'm a faithful LR customer, had literally dozens of RR, Discovery & Defender models over the years and wouldn't be without a Defender on the driveway, but if reliability is his #1 thing then the best advice you can give him is to buy a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Bought an Approved Used RRS last November. Number of weeks in the dealership having stuff fixed? Two and still there as I type. Previously owned 2 BMWs over the last 8 years, both from new. Number of weeks in a dealership having stuff fixed? None. When it works, the RRS is a stunning piece of kit but the ever present nagging doubt of whether it's going to make to the shops and back without destroying itself is beginning to outweigh the pleasure derived after only four and a bit months.

LR perfectly summarized in one sentence. They get much worse as they get older too. We won't really know how good the D5 is until we get into the 5-10 year age bracket.
