Hi, we are looking to buy a 306ps Range Rover Sport (Euro 6 compliant and probably an HSE Dynamic). The car will be a 65 plate or later, so just out of warranty, I expect.

Any tips on things to look out for when looking at suitable cars?

Or any links to decent buyers' guides?

Go in with your eyes open. I bought my Approved Used MY17 RRS AB last November and it's been a complete pain in the arse since, thank feck for the warranty.

Buy from a LR dealer which will come with 2 year warranty.

Oil dilution with associated crank failure needs to be covered.

Fab car. 👍

This. Mine blew it’s engine at 20k miles because of the crank failure issue (due to poorly machined oil journals in some blocks). Mine was a 65 plate MY16, and required a complete new engine at a cost of over £20k fitted (although under warranty).

This affects the early 306ps cars, so go in eyes open - although I think if they’re going to go it seems to be about when mine did in the 20k mile zone.

Did you have any advance warning of impending doom; noise, vibrations or did it just let go?

No, was going fine then the dashboard lit up and engine died. That was it.

Thanks for the info guys.

The oil dilution problem doesn't look like it's something that's easy to check but I'm happy to buy from a LR Dealer. As we have been looking at 2016 models, I'm guessing they would be considered 'early' 306bhp/Euro6 so could be affected.

Does anyone know when Matrix LEDs or high beam assist became an option/standard?

I have HBA on mine but it's an Autobiography which I think is a standard 'extra.' I have to say that it's not as sensitive as my old BMW's system and more often than not I switch it off. Car is a MY 17. Not sure about LEDs though.

HBA is standard on 2016 Evoque so not sure it's an Autobiography special on the sport
