What sort of fuel consumption could I expect from a 2000 Disco Td5 automatic? The book says 27mpg "mixed cycle", but I have no intention of cycling anywhere.
The fuel consumption on my V8 is beginning to get on my nerves, and it needs replacing anyway, so we're considering a diesel. Can't say as I'm filled with enthusiasm, but who knows.

Go LPG. V8 Fun at half the price.
There's nowhere sensible to put the tank in a Mk.1. Disco - it has to go in the "boot" which ruins most of the point of having a Disco in the first place. And it would take us about 18 months to recover the costs, by which time our existing car will be junk. If it was newer and there was somewhere sensible to put the tank, I'd definitely give it more consideration.
I struggle to get any more than 25.... strangley enough the overall mpg is better with the je stage 2 conversion... mind you only managed 340 on the last tank - 75 quids worth( towing the race car at the weekend) I usually get about 420...
the td5 is def no v8!!!! if you buy a standard td5 after a v8 you'll be straight to JE for an upgrade... although even with almost 200 bhp now the v8 is a nicer drive...
