Disco 4 - smart key not detected
Discussion
Morning all
I have a D4 which has so far been totally reliable in the 3.5 years I have owned it. I am now having my first minor problem with it and wondered if anyone new how to resolve it.
The car has decided that it cannot detect the smart key (either set - and I have replaced both batteries with brand new Duracell ones). I can open the car manually and hold the smart key under the steering column which allows me to start the car, but this is obviously annoying.
I have tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to do a system re-set but this had no effect.
This had been happening for about two-three weeks, then a couple of days ago, everything suddenly worked fine. Then yesterday, it was back to not detecting the key.
Land Rover want £180 plus VAT just to run a diagnostic check which I would rather avoid if possible. If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful to hear them.
I am not sure if it has any relevance, but the rear lights were stolen a couple of months ago and the connecting wires were cut. This has been repaired with OEM parts but I wonder if this could have thrown something in the electrical system?
