Hi Guys,
My Land dream is a SWB Serie 2 (the early ones with head ligts in the central grill) for its looks, combined with a V8 for its performance and... gorgeous sound
I have my eyes on a good condition 1966 model, fitted with the worth possible engine: Diesel
My questions are:
How easy is the V8 conversion?
Will the transmission be ok as it is?
Does it need a V8 gearbox?
Woult it be best buying a wrecked Range V8 as a donnor car?
Are there good specialists who can do the conversion?
What are we talking costwise?
Thanks for your help

Easiest to get one already converted. I've got a Series 1 with a V8, which uses the original (1957 and very noisey) gearbox, but series III axls which have larger drum brakes (still crap). They tend to run very hot as there's not a lot of air can get through the grill/headlights etc. Sounds great, but with original box it's very noisey and top speed is limited to 60mph ish, with cruising pretty uncomfortable above 50. I'd advise Range Rover diffs to give a bit more speed, and the biggest radiator you can fit in.
