Freelander 2 DIY servicing

I’ve bought a freelander 2 2.2 diesel and was wondering people’s opinions on how easily it can be serviced by a competent home mechanic? I’ve read up on changing the oil (sounds like a bit of a faff made much easier with appropriate tooling), but otherwise is there much to them? Any big routine jobs that are best left to a professional? I’ll get a Haynes manual in due course just for the specifics.

you will need a 27mm flex head spanner
to get the oil filter off.
can be done without ramps easy enough.
Pollen filter is hidden on firewall in Passenger footwell.
main issue is getting oil dilution counter reset (if you have DPF model)
I purchased Icarsoft code reader that does this reset .
I have done mine a few times now so can answer ?? if needed

I’ve already bought a 27mm flex head ratchet spanner so I think I’m covered. My plan is to give it a good service in January just to get familiar with it and then do annual services in January from then onwards - I’m not sure if it’s a DPF model or not (2009 2.2 XS) and it’ll only do 8k miles a year mostly 35 mile dual carriageway commutes so not expecting problems that’ll stop me doing just an annual service.

If you look underneath behind the drivers front wheel into the engine bay you may see two metal DPF pipes on the bulkhead
they have short rubber pieces on them that split and stop DPF function.
easily fixed with longer rubber pipes

Well I had a bit of a shock when I found the sump plug was cross threaded!! Luckily the sump threads cleaned after passing a tap through and bought a new sump plug, but was dreading having to change the sump!
The oil filter is just an awful bit of design in my opinion. A routine service item shouldn’t be any thing like that inaccessible, and whilst it’s been a while since I worked in a service centre, I don’t remember seeing anything as bad as that!
Couldn’t cobble together anything to fill the fuel filter before fitting it, will go and buy a hand primer and some hose then get that on at some point!
