Just noticed today that the hand brake light on my 2006 L322 isn't lighting up. Hand brake works fine. I noticed in the history that the PO had the rear brake shoes or something replaced. Is there a plug for this light or switch that the garage may have forgotten to connect up?

Usually this is driven by a switch on the handbrake mechanism - lifting the lever opens a contact that then illuminates the light on the dash (so a break in the switch circuit will fail safe and illuminate the light). Assuming yours conforms to this - the light not coming on on the dash would indicate either a stuck switch (staying in the contacts closed position) or the light on the dash has failed. This light is normally driven by the brake fluid reservoir also, so you can test the dash light by disconnecting the brake fluid reservoir level sensor.

I can't say if any of this applies to your car, this is on the basis of how it would "normally" work...

Well I've looked at it again and found that the light comes on when the handbrake is engaged at the highest 'up' position but that's it. Is there any way to adjust the switch so it comes on as soon as the handbrake is lifted, i.e. how you would normally expect it?
