Disco Sport balancer shaft whine
Discussion
I was visiting my father at the weekend, he has a year old Disco Sport with the Ingenium engine. He said he thought it was making a ‘funny noise’ so went out for a spin. Very noticeable whining noise in the cabin, clearly not right. After a bit of digging, found LR service action N128. Checked VIN numbers and it falls bang in the middle. Found a YouTube video and noise is exactly the same.
It seems the problem is balancer shafts and solution is new engine although many seem to have rejected the car completely. Car is booked into LR on Friday for investigation. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and how LR have handled it? Seems it’s Disco Sports, Evoques, Velars and RRS with the Ingenium engine. Seems like a ticking time bomb for these engines.

Well it’s confirmed, the balancer shafts are, well, shafted. Engine strip down and new shafts or possible new engine. Can’t do it until January. This occurs in all Ingenium engines, so Disco Sport, Evoques, RRS and Velars. Also the Jags with the same engine. Surprised others haven’t seen it yet, won’t be long if you haven’t. What a pile of horse manure.
