Not sure if I have just been unlucky but in the last 4 months I have had both rear lights stolen from my D4 and today someone has pinched the detachable tow bar!

I have had a couple of cars stolen over the years but not this petty theft. Getting a bit annoying now and I wondered if others have seen similar with Discovery’s?

D4 lights are popular upgrade for D3 owners who want to modernise the look of their car. They are an easy to sell item for £180-200 on ebay.

Towbar is an easy £1540 as well.

As far as the D4s being a target for theft, I don't think they are quite as desirable after as Defenders purely because they can't be stripped down as easily. Half decent mechanic can have defender in component parts in half a day.

Sorry to hear about your theft though. Both my Land Rovers are my pride and joy and I'd be quite upset if someone damaged them or stole a part from them. I don't even want my series on display any more. Locked garage or nothing now.

Well, the rear lights have been stolen again - as well as those from a RRS a few houses further along the road. Seems to be a pretty common problem and this is costing £500+ each time. Last time, at least they disconnected the lights so the replacement was easy - but this time they have cut the wires so I cannot do a DIY repair. Getting a bit hacked off now - with the tow bar going as well this has cost me ££££s this year and there doesn't seem to be much I can do to prevent this happening again

I have seen covers that conceal the screw mounts to block access to the light units.

That should help stop the theft.

Tow bars, if detachable ones. Should never be left on car if you aren’t towing.

OP - mark the lights in some way irreversible so less attarctive to thiefs. If you replace the towbar, respray it a colour so it wont sell easily.
