Hi All,

I was hoping someone with some experience of this could point a naïve owner in the right direction please. My 64 Disco 4 comes off LR Extended Warranty in Dec this year. It has a full LR service history and 62k on the clock and will likely have hit 70k by this time. Has anyone any experience of warranty providers to take the cover on? And a ball park on what I should be paying? Love the car but not sure I want to run the risk of not having something in place.

Also anything known to the car that they might quibble about stumping up for if it goes wrong.

Any pointers greatly appreciated! Thank you

Had the same with mine (63 plate) just before it was three years old I had the extended landrover warranty with assistance , we have used it a few times and never had a problem as long as it's serviced correctly and under 100k miles ( also has a mot warranty as well ) just take it to your local dealer the reg is on there screen so no paperwork , im happy with it and will continue to pay until it reaches 100k ( it costs £106 per month) which I'm happy to pay

I have a DS which will run out of warranty at the end of 2018. Based on my experience with three Jaguars over 15 years and extending the JLR warranty, this is what I will do at the end of 2018. Had several reasons with the Jaguars to be pleased to have the manufacturer's warranty and never any quibbles.

Their warranty has two limits: 10 years since date first registered and 100,000 miles. It includes a free MoT….note this is for the test not for any work required although that may, of course, be covered by the warranty.

Keep the Land Rover approved warranty, they’ve been very good for both me and my Dad when we’ve had issues with ours. For the sake of a few hundred pounds extra it’s not worth the risk of the extra headaches and the ‘will they, won’t they’ worries you get with aftermarket warranties.

Thanks all for your help. Wasnt sure if I could extend the LR warranty or not when their online quote site told me there were no products available for me. I'll give them a call.

Much appreciated

I would forget the LR warranty.

The biggest issue you face is the crankshaft snapping, requiring a new engine @ approx £16k.

LR warranty (Car care plan) do not cover this, as its a "known design fault" and they wont cover known design faults.

LR themselves wont cover it, referring you to the warranty company. And so the circle continues.

If you are VERY lucky, and prepared for a battle with LR, they will contribute upto 20% of that cost.

The only warranty company that specifically does cover the crankshaft snapping is Warranty Direct. They have paid for numerous replacements without much arguing.

Now my warranty direct warranty (on a D4) costs me £44 a month. However, I do believe they have just changed the pricing and you would need to get a quote from them. Its very mileage dependent, and if you have higher mileage the cost is now quite eye watering.

As JLR do NOT supply any new engine parts for engine repairs, your choices are limited should the worst happen. There are engine "refurbishers" all over the web, but they cannot have new cranks in those engines as JLR will not supply them. They will be from crashed cars.

You can buy complete brand new engines from some select places at around £8k.

Oh, and they new can have the same issue with the crankshaft, as they have not changed the design.
