Freelander 2 - TD4 v ed4 v SD4. Manual v Automatic.

I test drove a 2.2 TD4 GS 5dr Auto Freelander 2 and really enjoyed it.

Before committing to getting a TD4 I wondered if folk had some insight in to what I would be giving up/gaining in terms of performance and, perhaps more crucially, MPG if I opted for TD4 over the ed4 or SD4?

I enjoyed driving the automatic too - do people have a view on choosing this over a manual? The salesman kept reiterating that a manual would feel heavy and cumbersome in this size of car.
