Good evening all,

The time has come for me to buy a new car.
I have always liked the discovery 3 but I don't know all that much about them.
I was wondering about people's experience with these, if there are big expensive problems waiting for me if I did go for it.

Also, every so often you come across a Disco 4 in my price range (up to 10k max) but these are high mileage. Better to go for a less leggy D3?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

LaserTam

Probably worth having a read on disco3.co.uk - loads of info on there.
Disco 4 was allegedly a better car, resolving some of the issues with the 3.

Have you done any research your self?

They ironed a lot of the D3 kinks out with the D4. However I wouldn't want a poverty spec D4.

Join the Discovery 3 and 4 owners group on Facebook. Very good info page on there and I would fully digest that before posting anything else.

D3 in a snap shot:
Suspension suspension suspension. It will go wrong. If your lucky it will eventually a sensor or maybe the compressor. Can also be a wiring fault which can be a nightmare.
Glowplugs and fuel burning heater. Just go and do some reading on that one. Budget £800 to replace all the plugs.
Wheel bearings. Common faikure. Budget £250 for one front side
Suspension arms. Very common and £509 for the pair

Shed loads of other stuff but I'm tired.
