DPF Amber warning!
Discussion
Give it a run out and force a dpf regen.
I'm guessing you're only doing relatively short journeys to the Granfondo Inc. corporate car park everyday ?
Motorway/dual cariageway run, high revs, hold it in 4th/5th/6th using the paddles somewhere between 60 and 70 for 15 -20 mins to do a dpf regen.

So when it went red did it go into limp mode ? If so how did you get it out of limp mode ?
Have you had no orange lights previously ?
The 4K miles you refer to is that the car’s approximate lifetime mileage so far or just the span over which the two incidents occurred ?
Straight to red then back to dealership.Have you had no orange lights previously ?

No orange.
Both.

So you should get an orange light before red, this is the trigger to tell you to get a regen.
There’s a fault in the chain somewhere, either the sensor to trigger the orange light is bust causing it not to alert you to the need for a regen or it is showing a false red light warning triggering the limp mode.
I’m assuming JLR assist did a diagnostic and just reset the fault code to remove the red light ?
My guess is it is the first problem above, short journeys driving the need for a regen but the failsafe to tell you there’s a prob,em building in the dpf isn’t kicking in.

Lazy of them
Sounds like diagnostics told them the dog was clogged but they couldn’t
be bothered to check the sensors/warning light for you.
Poor form.
Spoke to the master Tech and he said that if the car does not get to full operating temp the flow sensors won't register and the Amber warning won't be triggered and will go straight to red.Sounds like diagnostics told them the dog was clogged but they couldn’t

The receptionist said they are having lots of problems with DPF and more so since Addblue!

Quick update before collecting car!
It needed a DPF regen but they could not answer my question as to why no Amber warning on 2 occasions in 4K miles.
Manual states that Amber warning should appear before Red allowing you to get the car to self regenerate.
If it's anything like others, I suspect that it won't go to Amber until the next ignition cycle. So, if you drive with a close to needing regen DPF, and drive the thing hard/not on the motorway, it'll hold off the amber warning in the hope you'll go on the motorway. Problem is, if you don't, and you keep filling the DPF, it will go over the limit at which it can regen before it tells you....It needed a DPF regen but they could not answer my question as to why no Amber warning on 2 occasions in 4K miles.

Apologies for re raising an old topic but I’ve got a RRS 2016 which had the amber warning to it for a run and it seemed to have cleared but came back with a red warning with engine into limp mode etc. Should I take it for a further run and see if it will clear out or do I need to see a Indy to get it cleared manually?

Not a LR expert, but based on other threads on here - and other sites - I'd be looking to get it to a specialist ASAP. Other threads suggest that failed DPF regens lead to diesel being dumped into the engine oil which can cause much more serious damage.sunbeam alpine said:
